MCU Awards Diplomas to Digital Department Graduates

On August 12, Moscow City University awarded diplomas to graduates of the Digital Department, a project implemented as part of the Priority 2030 federal programme. This was the university’s fourth graduating year. This year, 1,137 graduates received not only their main university diplomas but also professional retraining diplomas in 13 IT programmes, including:

  • IT Project Management;
  • AI Technologies in Education;
  • Digital Design;
  • Data Analytics: Applications in Education.

The ceremony featured speeches by Acting Rector Elena Gevorkyan and Vice-Rector Roman Komarov. Diplomas were presented by Marina Shalashova, project head and Director of the Institute of Continuing Education, and Vladimir Abramov, Director of the Institute of Digital Education. Representatives of the university’s IT partners also attended the ceremony.

Graduates describe their second diploma not as a career change, but as an “upgrade.” Today, teachers cannot afford to fall behind their students when it comes to digital tools. With IT competencies, educators do more than simply follow their students’ interests: they set the pace, using the same platforms, services, and digital environments as their students, but in a more purposeful and professionally informed way.

Graduates of MCU’s Digital Department are expected to be in demand at Moscow schools, where digital skills are no longer an advantage but a basic requirement. And while children with smartphones in their hands may feel completely at home in the digital world, a teacher with confident command of digital tools can turn that dynamic around — ultimately to improve educational outcomes.
