MCU case study included among the world’s top 100 best practices for using AI in education

International Relations Department initiated the participation of Moscow City University in the competition “Global Call for Best Practices in AIED: Scenarios-Driven Educational Transformation”. MCU’s case study gained international recognition in the field of digital transformation in education for the integration of AI technologies into the educational process and the training of future teachers, and was selected as one of the top 100 best practices from more than 500 applications submitted from around the world.

The competition was organised by the World Digital Education Alliance (WDEA) and aimed to identify the most successful cases of using artificial intelligence to transform the educational environment. Among the top 100 case studies were works from representatives of more than 30 countries worldwide, including China, Tunisia, Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, Malaysia, India, Vietnam and others. Russian universities are represented in the final collection by only two institutions: Moscow City University and the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Thanks to MCU’s membership in the World Digital Education Alliance and the work of the International Relations Department, the University’s experience was presented to the professional international community and received high expert appraisal.

The presented case study demonstrates the university’s comprehensive approach to integrating artificial intelligence into the training of future teachers. It reflects the work of the Department of Information Technologies and Services and the Institute of Digital Education. One of the central projects is the ‘Digital Mirror of a Lesson’ system, developed to use computer vision, video analytics and educational data analysis technologies to assess the professional competencies of future teachers. The case study also presents practices for using generative artificial intelligence in teaching, adaptive educational solutions and digital tools for teacher training. Special attention is paid to building a university ecosystem for the responsible use of AI technologies in the educational environment.

As a result of the competition, the University’s case study was included in the official international collection of best practices, and the team of authors received a certificate of recognition from the Alliance. Furthermore, the organisers invited representatives of MCU to prepare an extended version of the work for publication in a collective monograph by Springer, which will bring together the most successful international case studies of AI application in education.

The inclusion of MCU’s experience among the world’s leading best practices confirms the university’s high level of expertise in the digital transformation of education and strengthens its position as an active participant in the international agenda on artificial intelligence and educational technologies.
