MCU History at a Glance
25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
MCU celebrates its 25th anniversary. During a quarter of a century MCU has grown into a large education and research center specialized in education quality, content development and evaluation. Today MCU is an important policymaker engaged in shaping strategies for the education system in Russia.
With the focus on internationalization of education, MCU develops its global engagements by signing cooperation agreements with leading universities in Europe and Asia and attracting more than 600 international students. MCU enters the international consortium of the Erasmus+ research project CRELES aimed at investigating inclusive education practices at European schools.
MCU is the first among the Russia’s teachers’ training universities to cross the threshold of the average 80 points for the Unified State Exam among the state-funded applicants. The Institute of Digital Education is established.
JUST THE BEGINNING
It's the 3rd decade of MCU history. In 2016 and 2017 MCU was announced the 1st among nation’s higher pedagogical institutions. MCU is in TOP-50 universities by the average score of the applicants.
In 2017 MCU established a Silver University.
FOLLOWING NEW TRENDS
Following the new trends in Moscow education system, MCU incorporates all city pedagogical colleges to make a nation's leader by the number of students.
NEW RECTOR, NEW VISTAS
Igor Remorenko is appointed Rector of MCU.
Moscow State Academy of Business Administration becomes part of MCU to make a new educational department in Zelenograd.
MCU incorporates Moscow Humanitarian Teachers’ Training Institute.

15 YEARS’ LANDMARK
MCU celebrates its 15th anniversary with 10,000 applications submitted.
University enters Bologna process to introduce a two-step higher education system, offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
TEN YEARS’ LANDMARK
MCU celebrates its first decade of success!
Samara Department is launched.
Moscow City Teachers’ Training University is founded by the resolution of the Moscow Government, Victor Ryabov appointed as its First Rector. Lyubov Kezina, Head of the Department of Education, and Vladimir Shadrikov, Deputy Minister of Education, are appointed as its co-founders. In 1995 MCU welcomes 1,300 students to be enrolled in 17 programs at 8 departments, with an opportunity to choose between 3 study modes.
