On November 20, the annual evaluation of universities participating in the Priority 2030 programme took place before the Council chaired by Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The MCU team, led by Rector Igor Remorenko, presented the results of the University’s strategic technological project “Educational AI Technologies” and its development plans for 2026.
The delegation included Roman Komarov and Ruslan Suleimanov, Vice Rectors, Ashot Dzhanumov, Head of the Strategic Development Office , as well as MCU’s strategic partner — the Sberbank Charitable Foundation “Investment in the Future”, represented by Svetlana Reshetnikova, Director for Strategic Communications.
The key focus of the presentation was the dynamic development of the strategic technological project portfolio, including Digital Mirror, digital adaptive textbook, training simulators, and an AI platform for creating virtual agents. The team highlighted how these projects influence the university’s research agenda and transform its educational policies and academic programmes. A separate emphasis was placed on educational products in modern education didactics, including engineering didactics.
As a result of the evaluation, Moscow City University moved from the third group to the second, becoming the only pedagogical university in the country to improve its ranking and enter the top 20 of the main track, taking 18th place.
In 2026, a total of 106 universities across Russia will participate in the Priority 2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Programme. Universities were divided into three groups: 13 universities in the first group, 22 universities in the second group (including MCU), and 52 universities in the third group.
The Priority 2030 programme, launched by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in 2021, is currently the largest university support initiative in the country’s history. By decree of President Vladimir Putin, the programme has been extended until 2030. Since 2025, Priority 2030 has been implemented as part of the national project “Youth and Children.”
