Institute of Foreign Languages at the international conference

Tatiana Makarova, Head of the Department of English Studies and Cross-Cultural Communication, Maria Molchanova, Deputy Head for Research Work of the Department of English Studies and Cross-Cultural Communication, and Anastasia Voevodina, Assistant of the Department of English Studies and Cross-Cultural Communication, took part in the international conference “Actual Problems of Modern Foreign Philology, Cross-Cultural Communication and Linguistics” organised by the South Ossetian State University named after A. A. Tibilov and the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh. M. Berbekov.

The conference brought together university professors, postgraduate and doctoral students living in the Russian Federation and other countries who presented the results of their research in the sections “Topical Issues of Modern Linguistics and Cross-Ccultural Communication”, “Current Issues of Linguodidactics and Foreign Language Teaching Methodology” and “Western Literature at the Turn of the 20th-21st Centuries: General Trends”.

Tatiana Makarova and Maria Molchanova presented a joint report “Key Issues of Foreign Language Teacher Training for Specific Purposes” and considered modern requirements to the professional training of teachers working in ESP (English for Specific Purposes), while Anastasia Voyevodina  made a report “Variation of Comparative Constructions in Scientific Discourse: Comparative Aspect”, in which the main similarities and differences in the structure and functional application of the analysed constructions were revealed.

The conference proved to be a promising platform for sharing expertise and addressing current challenges in modern Linguistics, Foreign Language Teaching Methodology and Philology. The participants noted the high level of organisation of the event and the significance of the presented reports.
