The possibilities of applying neural networks in education were discussed at MCU

On 5 July 2023, the Institute of Digital Education of MCU held a webinar from the series “Digital Environment” on the topic: “Generative Neural Networks in Education: Classification and Prospects of Use”.

The meeting covered various aspects related to the use of neural networks in education. In particular, services available to teachers were presented, which allow generating texts and images for use in school lessons.

The presentations were made by Alexander Grinshkun – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Russian Academy of Education, Associate Professor of the Department of Informatization of Education and Anton Eliseev – Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Informatization of Education. The webinar was moderated by Boris Yarmakhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Informatization of Education.

The speakers of the webinar noted that along with the vast opportunities that generative neural networks bring with them, there are also a number of dangers associated, first of all, with insufficient elaboration of ethical and regulatory aspects of these technologies. There is a certain risk of unfair application of neural networks related to the difficulty in identifying the authorship of texts generated with the help of artificial intelligence.

Answering the questions of the audience, Alexander Grinshkun said that the series of webinars devoted to the problems of artificial intelligence in education is planned to continue due to the great interest in the topic from students of pedagogical specialties and practicing teachers.
