On June 1, 2023, students of MCU met with Mr. Mehmet Samsar, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to the Russian Federation, to discuss prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the field of education.
At the meeting, the students had a chance to demonstrate their level of knowledge of the Turkish language, mastered during their study course. They told the Turkish Ambassador about the classes led by Professor Hadi Baka and shared their plans for the future.
The Ambassador expressed interest in developing cooperation between MCU and Turkish universities and offered a number of ideas for further cooperation. The Ambassador’s great interest was aroused by joint projects of the Institute of Humanities of MCU and Ataturk University (Erzurum, Turkey).
Moreover, the students discussed with the Ambassador the cultural and linguistic features of Russia and Turkey and expressed the hope that such meetings would strengthen friendly relations between the countries.
It should be mentioned that MCU students were awarded a special honour: they became the first foreigners invited to a personal meeting with the Ambassador and visited the main building of the Turkish Embassy. Previous meetings took place exclusively at the Ambassador’s residence.
In addition, the meeting was also attended by Hatice Altunok, the Education Advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Russia and Associate Professor. Ms. Altunok handed over textbooks and manuals on the Turkish language to the guests and invited MCU students to participate in internship programmes conducted between Turkey and Russia.
As a result, MCU students gained new experience in communicating with representatives of another country and also broadened their horizons in Turkish culture and language.
Furthermore, students were privileged to be invited by the Ambassador to the celebration of Turkish Breakfast Day held on June 4, 2023.
The project of cooperation between Turkey and Russia is being developed with the support of the International Relations Department of MCU.
