Associate Professor organised a health check workshop for school students

On October 31, the Institute of Natural Science and Sports Technologies of MСU hosted the first event of the Human Health Checkup project. Associate Professor, Candidate of Sciences (PhD) in Biology Eugeniy Stepura organised a health checkup station: guests of the Institute from Moscow schools could assess the functional state of the body and learn about electrocardiograms, anthropometric indicators, analysis of the cardiovascular system of the human body. Within the framework of the topic “Human Structure” students analysed the peculiarities of functioning of the blood system organs and their interrelation with the human nervous system. At the first event, students divided into working groups, familiarised themselves with the algorithms and stages of the project, equipment and indicators to be collected.

Four meetings are planned to take down the indicators and analyse the results and one final conference at the end of December to present the research findings.

«This project is aimed at developing students’ skills of data collection, processing, analysing and further forming in the form of a small scientific work. Children get acquainted with scientific equipment, its capabilities, form ideas about human body indicators, learn to conduct research, record and analyze the results. Working on the project will allow students to obtain not only ready-made knowledge from various sources, but also to find the truth on their own, deepen their knowledge, sharpen their skills, or learn new ones. Preparing a school project is an excellent basis for future works of similar format» said Eugeniy Stepura.

MCU’s Institute of Natural Science and Sports Technologies is an active participant of the “Natural Science Vertical” project initiated by the Department of Education and Science of Moscow.

The project is aimed to form the knowledge and teach students of 7-9th grades to apply skills in the field of natural sciences. This lets them solve theoretical and practice-oriented problems, think about further education in pre-professional classes and successfully realise themselves in various spheres of modern natural sciences. Within the framework of the project, children master the materials of an advanced course of chemistry and biology and undergo training in additional general educational programs of natural science orientation.
