A Short Version of the SAM Tool: School Application

On May 27, the roundtable discussion A Short Version of the SAM Tool: School Application will be held within the 5th Annual International Symposium “Education and City: The Third Mission of the University”.

Since 2008, the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation has been carrying out the Program for Improving Basic Education Quality in the Countries of the CIS, Asia, and Africa. The Program has supported the development of the most promising Russian methodologies and education quality assessment tools and their localization in the partner countries. The Center for International Cooperation in Education Development (CICED) and MCU experts have accepted the challenge to complete the task.

A short version of the SAM, which is a three-level assessment of subject competencies, has been developed to test school students in mathematics and Russian  language during one lesson. It allows teachers and school administration to assess students’ knowledge quickly and efficiently.

The participants of the roundtable discussion will present the special features of the SAM toolkit, elaborate on testing and processing of findings, as well as discuss the approbation of a new tool and methods of analyzing data obtained by means of the tool in the project partner countries. In addition, new international projects on education quality assessment will be presented by the CICED and MCU experts.

Moderator: Anton M. Agapov, Junior Research Fellow of the Laboratory of Activity-Based Education Design at the MCU’s Research Institute of Urban Studies and Global Education.

  • Arsen Bagdasaryan, Deputy Director of the Center for Evaluation and Testing under the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia;
  • Vasiliy Rusetsky, Head of the Research Center at the Institute of Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Belarus;
  • Zeynep Zhamakeeva, Deputy Director of the Center for Quality Assessment and Information Technology of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • Sabzali Jafarov, Director of the Center for Education Quality Assessment under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
