Teachers’ Pedagogical Thinking: Formation, Development, and Assessment

On April 16, as part of the IX International Symposium Education and City: People and Institutions, the session “Teachers’ Pedagogical Thinking: Formation, Development, and Assessment” will be held in a hybrid format. The session will be moderated by Alexander Aronov, Professor, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

The session will focus on how teachers’ professional thinking is formed and developed, and how it can be assessed and supported in practice. Approaches will be discussed that help teachers not only apply methodologies, but also consciously design the educational process, make informed decisions, and reflect on their work. The session will be useful for educators, methodologists, researchers, and all those involved in teacher training and professional development.

The speakers include:

  • Alexander Aronov (“The ‘Ideal Lesson’ Scenario as a Tool for Diagnosing Teachers’ Professional Thinking”) — on how the “ideal lesson” model can be used to assess the level of pedagogical thinking; results of diagnostics among teachers and master’s students will be presented.
  • Tatyana Smoleusova, Professor at the Department of Primary Education, Novosibirsk Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Educators (“Developing Teachers’ Pedagogical Thinking in Professional Development Programmes”) — on fostering pedagogical thinking through learner-centered approaches, project-based methods, and competency assessment.
  • Yulia Belova, Deputy Director for Curriculum Management, School No. 1598 (“Coaching as a Methodology for Reflective Thinking in Teaching: From Paradigm Shift to the ‘Professional Mastery Book’ Tool”) — on the coaching approach and the “Professional Mastery Book” tool that supports conscious professional reflection and enhances intrinsic motivation.
  • Anna Lyubchenko, Founder of the educational platform “Nauchilus,” EdTech expert (“The Key Task as a Method for Developing Teachers’ Professional Thinking”) — on how working with “key tasks” helps teachers develop thinking, identify conceptual structures, build dialogue, and design learning meaningfully.
  • Irina Zhulanova and Alexander Medvedev, Associate Professors, Directorate of Educational Programmes, MCU (“Assessing Teachers’ Orientation in Pedagogical Reality: A Screening Study”) — on research findings related to teachers’ professional thinking, including dominant attitudes and their correlation with real pedagogical decisions.
  • Tatyana Konobeeva, Acting Head of the Laboratory of Activity-based Education Design, Research Institute of Urban Studies and Global Education, MCU (“The Case Method as a Tool for Developing Pedagogical Thinking”) — on the potential of case studies in developing pedagogical thinking among future teachers and enhancing their ability to analyze situations, find solutions, and reflect.

The event will be held in a hybrid format.
