On May 17 MCU hosted the International Research and Practice Conference dedicated to parental rights and homeschooling in Russia and the world. The conference featured truly international outlook on the key issues, as its speakers represented all parts of the world: South and North America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
The conference was opened with a welcome word by Professor Jan de Groof and MCU Vice-Rector Artemiy Rozhkov.
During the first session the speakers mostly focused on homeschooling in legal context of different countries, drawing examples and stating pros and contras of various educational systems. After listening to reports, MCU students, representing the other side of the debate, had a chance to ask the researchers about the children’s right to choose the form of education that most suits them.
The second session continued with the debate that gave all the participants an opportunity to express their opinions on homeschooling and related issues.
After the second session the guests had a chance to discuss the key questions in a less formal atmosphere, learning more about each other’s research work and making crosscultural connections.
