According to the new legislation, international students studying at Russian universities in the full-time mode are allowed to work without any special work permits. The employment procedure has been streamlined for both students and employers: students no longer have to submit the reference of enrollment, while employers do not need to apply for work authorization in case they want to hire an overseas student during the academic year.
There are no restrictions on the number of working hours per week, taking into account that the employment contract expires when the studies at a Russian university is completed.
The new law No 16-ФЗ dated February 6, 2020, have entered into force on August 5, 2020. Previously, international students were allowed to work in Russia only during academic vacation.
