Account of The 3rd International Russian-Kazakh Scientific Workshop

The 3rd International Russian-Kazakh Scientific Workshop Digital University: Globalization of Teacher Education was conducted at MCU on January 17, 2020. The Workshop was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Moscow City University and arranged by the Institute of Digital Education and the Office for Regional Cooperation with support of Abai University, Kazakhstan, and Krasnoyarsk Teachers’ Training University named after Astafiev.

The Workshop featured 20 speakers from Almaty, Minsk, Krasnoyarsk, Kazan, and Moscow’s research and educational institutions – Lomonosov Moscow State University, Financial University, The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), The Russian Academy of Education, The Russian Academy of Sciences and many others. The speakers presented reports and participated in the discussions regarding the scientific aspects of development and application of digital technologies in higher education. In total, more than 100 participants from Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus joined the event.

At the opening, MCU President Viktor Ryabov spoke of the quater-century development of MCU and the key achievements in the field of collaboration between city and university.

Rector of Abai University Takir Balykbayev presented the new concept of transforming the university from teachers’ training institution into a digital educational center, described approaches to interdisciplinary application of digital technologies in the university’s practices.

Valery Kovalevsky, Rector of Krasnoyarsk Teachers’ Training University named after Astafiev, spoke on the innovations in teachers’ training education in Krasnoyarsk: the upside-down electronic courses, electronic systems for HR management, digital technologies for advanced professional trainings.

The reports of the academics featured such current topics as 

  • Application of multi-dimensional data for digitization of educational results assessment
  • Augmented reality technologies in education
  • Development of individual learning trajectories
  • International case studies: online technologies for PhD programs
  • MOOС for research
  • Comparative analysis of teaching information technologies in Russia and Kazakhstan

Special interest was aroused by the report of Mahmud Al-Khamza, senior researcher at the Institute of History of Natural Sciences and Technologies, on scientific heritage of great medieval Oriental scholars such as Al-Khwarizmi and Al-Farabi in teaching mathematics and IT to modern students.

The Workshop was concluded by Vadim Grinshkun, Head of the Informatization of Education Department, who offered the ideas on digitalization of education issues to be discussed at the following meetings.

The 4th International Russian-Kazakh Scientific Workshop will be held at Abai University in the end of 2020 – beginning of 2021.
