Education in the Rhythm of the City: Space of Emotions

On April 5, 2025, the first conference on educational urbanism “Education in the rhythm of the city: a space of emotions” will be held at the Moscow City University. The event will be held at the Institute of Culture and Arts of Moscow City University (Dmitrovskoe highway, 34, building 2) and will be interesting for educational researchers, methodologists and teachers.

The conference was organised by the Laboratory of Socio-Cultural Educational Practices of the Research Institute of Urban Studies and Global Education. Anastasia Rossinskaya, a leading research fellow at the laboratory, explains how the idea of holding such an event arose and what to expect from the audience:

“Educational urbanism is developing very fast. Academic subjects, methodological developments, entire master’s degree programs, research, articles, collections, manuals, but there has not been a single specialised conference in Russia yet. <…> It’s time to tell each other what we already know, what’s working, share what’s not working, and look for solutions together <…> Education + city + emotions and feelings — we decided to dedicate our conference to this bundle.”

Two tracks are planned at the conference — research and methodological.

The research track will be held in the format of sections. You can apply for a presentation on the following topics:

  • pedagogical work with feelings and emotions in an urban environment;
  • the educational potential of the city for the development of feelings and emotions;
  • feelings and emotions of a teacher when working in an urban environment.

“You can suggest other topics, but they should be related to education, city, feelings and emotions at the same time,” the organizers emphasize.

The methodological track will be devoted to the practices of teachers working in an urban environment. Participants will discuss pedagogical cases of working with children, teenagers, students, and adults of any age. The organizers also invite everyone to share their experiences in the format of messages or posters.

You can register to participate in the conference by following the link. Please pay attention: registration for speakers is open until March 5, for listeners — until March 30.

The programme and announcements of the conference events will be published in the telegram channel “Educational Urbanism” under the tag #conference.
