On November 5—14, Budva, Montenegro, held the WAKO European Kickboxing Championships for Older Cadets and Juniors.
Maya Zhirnova, a first-year student in the Technologies of Sports Training program at the MCU’s Institute of Natural Sciences and Sports Technologies, won the bronze medal in the 52 kg category of the K-1 competition. In the quarterfinals, Maya defeated a Polish opponent but lost the semifinal match against an athlete from Hungary.
1 418 athletes from 39 countries participated in the Championships. Team Russia consisted of 196 sportsmen. The national team put in an excellent performance winning 151 medals, including 68 gold ones, 52 silver, and 31 bronze.
