International Conference “Children’s Literature as an Event”

On 13–14 February 2026, the Laboratory of Sociocultural Educational Practices of the Research Institute of Urban Studies and Global Education at Moscow City University (MCU) invites participants to the international conference “Children’s Literature as an Event.”

The conference is designed for a broad audience, including school teachers, college and university educators, authors of independent educational projects, methodologists, librarians, students, parents, and all those interested in children’s and young adult literature and reading practices. Participants will take part not only in paper presentations, but also in round tables, seminars, and lectures.

The 7th International Conference “Children’s Literature as an Event” will focus on the themes of reflection and togetherness.

Reflection is proposed as a unifying theme for research presentations in the field of children’s literature, bringing participants together in a collective format akin to a flash mob titled “Me and Children’s Literature.”

Togetherness in private reading practices can be achieved in various ways, such as family reading, read-aloud sessions, reading clubs, and reader-centered events. Other practices also foster a sense of shared experience, including radio programmes or live streams, where reading or discussing books takes place in real time, with participants interacting via chat—or sometimes without direct interaction, yet still feeling connected. Asynchronous togetherness is made possible through fandoms, as well as reviews and recommendations on digital library platforms. The conference invites participants to discuss the potential and resources of shared reading practices within its panels and discussions.

Registration for participation and submission of presentation proposals is available via the provided link.
The deadline for applications is 20 January 2026.
