New Educational Infrastructure: Building vs Content

On April 16, as part of the IX International Symposium “Education and the City: People and Institutions,” a mini-symposium titled “New Educational Infrastructure: Building vs Content” will be held in a hybrid format. The moderator is Elena Ivanova, Head of the Laboratory of Educational Infrastructure at the Research Institute of Urban Studies and Global Education, Moscow City University. Participants include architects, designers, educators, local community development specialists, developers, and researchers of the urban environment.

The mini-symposium is planned to discuss key issues related to the use of new educational infrastructure:

  • Management teams. Have the expectations for new buildings been met? How efficient are they and how complex are they to operate? How do children and adults освоить (learn to use) and adapt to these spaces?
  • Developers. Will architectural solutions change in the near future? Is it possible to rethink the current experience of designing and using buildings? What changes are most likely?
  • Students. How do children perceive themselves in large spaces? Is there a risk of losing identity in a large-area building?
  • Teachers. Is the reduction of space for teachers and services a cost saving at the expense of comfort? Can we expect greater readiness for change and new work formats in return? Does the new environment influence teaching practices?
  • Vandalism and other deviant behavior within school walls. How do the features of the school environment influence student behavior? Can involving the school community in arranging and developing the space reduce levels of aggression, vandalism, and bullying, as well as strengthen a sense of responsibility and belonging?

The event will be held in a hybrid format. In person — at 8 Sadovaya-Samotechnaya St., Room 28. Applications to participate as a speaker or attendee are open; registration is available via the link.

Please note: several events will take place at the same time. The necessary link to join the broadcast is indicated in the program. The full list of events will soon be available on the symposium website.
