More than 25,000 tenth-grade students from Moscow’s pre-professional classes have taken part in an initiation ceremony marking their first step towards future careers. According to the Moscow Department of Education and Science, the students visited partner universities for excursions, workshops, science quizzes, and interactive quests, and had the opportunity to speak with researchers and industry experts.
The school students explored modern laboratories, simulation centres, and creative hubs where university students work on their projects. Pupils from engineering and IT classes visited Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the National Research University of Electronic Technology (MIET), and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). They were shown unique equipment and took part in meetings with representatives of major employers, including the state corporation Rosatom, the Association “Hydropower of Russia,” and the company “1C”.
Future medical professionals visited I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, and the Russian University of Medicine, among other institutions training specialists in medical and natural sciences. The schoolchildren participated in masterclasses on medical cybernetics, electron microscopy, working with biopolymers, surgical suturing, the basics of neonatology, and other medical fields. Additionally, the students had the chance to talk with leading doctors from Moscow’s hospitals and clinics.
Students from entrepreneurial classes were initiated at HSE University, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and other institutions. The pupils engaged in business games and masterclasses on management, economics, and finance, and were able to ask questions of successful entrepreneurs.
For media class students, the initiation events were held at MGIMO University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute. They participated in workshops on text editing, audio and video recording, and practical sessions on media communications, stage speech, and other specialist skills. Speakers at these events included journalists and employees of publishing houses and media groups. At MGIMO, the students met with Alexander Efremov, a news anchor for the “Vesti” programme on the “Russia 1” TV channel, while at the Pushkin Institute, they interacted with staff from the international media group “Russia Today.”
Currently, pre-professional classes are available in 70 per cent of Moscow’s schools. The curriculum follows a unified standard implemented jointly by schools, colleges, universities, and industry partners. At university and research organisation sites, students conduct their own research and create projects, which they later present at annual scientific-practical conferences. These projects can range from experimental results and device prototypes to business plans and finished media products.
