On 13 November, Yandex’s online conference on people and technology in education was held for the fifth time. Every year Yet Another Conference on Education invites researchers, teachers and developers who already know what the future holds for education.
Ruslan Suleymanov, Pro-Rector of MCU, moderated the meeting “What AI has taught us over the last year”. The experts assessed where artificial intelligence is beneficial, and where its implementation proved ineffective. In addition, the speakers presented analyses of not only Russian but also international experience of AI implementation in education. The outcome of the meeting was a discussion of the possibility of AI to become an alternative model to traditional education.
Alexandra Ostapenko, a 3rd year student of Moscow State Pedagogical University, also acted as an expert. Within the framework of the discussion “How education is changing: the view of those who learn” the girl told about her observations during her work as an English teacher. Alexandra is sure that although the teacher is no longer a source of knowledge for modern children, they have acquired a new and very important function as a navigator of information. They are the ones who teach them to navigate through the abundance of information, find the right data, and work with it. The participants of the meeting also discussed the peculiarities of the teaching profession, the need for CV writing skills and the teacher’s talent to combine the roles of professional and educator.
