On August 6, 2024, a meeting of the Expert Council for the Development of Historical Education, chaired by the head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov, witnessed a presentation of a new textbook on the history of Russia. It was adopted as a basisfor students pursuing studies outside of history-related disciplines.
The meeting was attended by Rector of Moscow City University Igor Remorenko and Deputy Director of the Institute of Humanities of the Moscow City University Elena Tokareva.
The author’s team responsible for developing the textbook was headed by Yuri Petrov, the Director of the Institute of Russian History at the Russian Academy of Sciences. This team comprised 30 academic historians, along with representatives from the university community and young teachers.
Valery Falkov noted:
We consider it crucial that the textbook we have produced is thoroughly reviewed and genuinely useful for education. That’s why, in the spring, we collaborated with the Russian Historical Society to organise a significant campaign for professional discussions on the textbook. In addition, the final version of the textbook was sent to the Russian Academy of Sciences for examination, and we have recently received a positive evaluation.
Sergey Naryshkin, the Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, participated in the Expert Council meeting. He mentioned that the author’s team put in a lot of effort to make nearly 3,000 improvements and addressed comments while working on the national history textbook.
Earlier, experts from the Institute of Humanities of the Moscow City University partook in the examination of the concept of teaching history and a textbook on the history of Russia for students of non-historical specialties.
