On October 13, 2025, Moscow City University (MCU) hosted the grand opening of the Russian-Chinese Center for Artificial Intelligence in Education (RCC AIE) — the first major joint project between MCU and Central China Normal University (Wuhan).
The event marked a new stage in scientific and educational cooperation between Russia and China, bringing together the intellectual resources of two leading pedagogical universities committed to developing innovative technologies in education.
The opening ceremony was attended by Igor Remorenko, MCU Rector, and Xia Lixin, Secretary of the Party Committe of Central China Normal University, as well as representatives of the leadership and academic staff from both universities.
“Today we are opening the Russian-Chinese Center for Artificial Intelligence in Education – the first major outcome of our productive cooperation with Central China Normal University. The Center will serve as a platform for conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of artificial intelligence and its implementation in educational practice. Here we will not only exchange scientific achievements but also demonstrate real technologies capable of transforming education – making it more personalized, open, accessible, and effective,” MCU Rector Igor Remorenko noted.
The establishment of the Center is a logical continuation of the fruitful collaboration between the two universities. The joint work between MCU and CCNU began in 2023 and includes academic mobility programs, joint summer schools, and research projects focused on the application of AI in education.
The Center will conduct applied research, develop intelligent learning systems, and analyze big data and digital footprints of educational processes. Future plans include launching projects on AI agents for student support, developing educational platforms, and organizing international scientific events.
After the official ceremony, the delegation toured the RCC AIE facilities and met with students from the Institute of Digital Education, where classes are already being conducted at the Center.
Later, Rector Igor Remorenko presented the results of cooperation with Central China Normal University, while MCU Vice-Rector Ruslan Suleymanov gave a detailed overview of the goals, objectives, and prospects of the RCC AIE. In turn, Tatiana Nikitina, Director of the Center for Independent Assessment of Student Competencies, and Alexey Rytov, Head of the Simulation Center for Education, introduced the guests to MCU’s digital infrastructure — including the Digital Mirror service and simulation training systems for teacher preparation. The meeting also featured presentations of joint projects and discussions on future areas of collaboration.
Special attention was given to the signing of an agreement on establishing the International Research Center for Special and Inclusive Education, with the participation of Elena Ushakova, Director of the Institute of Psychology and Comprehensive Rehabilitation.
During the talks, representatives of Central China Normal University proposed several new directions for further cooperation, including the development of online programs, student and faculty exchanges, the creation of joint research laboratories and educational resources, promotion of teacher training in Chinese language education, implementation of joint grant projects, and the formation of unified standards for the use of AI tools in education.
The opening of the Russian-Chinese Center for Artificial Intelligence in Education has become a symbol of trust and strategic partnership between Russia and China in the fields of science and education. The new center will bring together researchers, educators, and students from both countries to jointly create technologies that will shape the future of education.
