Developmental Teaching: History and Perspectives

From December 14 to 16, the Research and Practice Conference Developmental Teaching: History and Perspectives will be held by the Developmental Education Association and the Institute of System Projects. The Conference is dedicated to the 60-year anniversary of the Elkonin-Davydov system of developmental education.

The Elkonin-Davydov system was launched in 1958 when the Junior Students Psychological Laboratory was established in the school No 91. The first to head the Laboratory was Professor Daniil Elkonin, later — Professor Vasily Davydov. In 1996, the Elkonin-Davydov system was recognized by the state as one of three national junior education systems.

The system of developmental education is very farsighted, as it corresponds to the current educational standards and the Concept of Reforming Russian Educational System. The objectives of the Elkonin-Davydov system fit the contemporary trends in Russian and international education, which include being initiative, self-dependent and responsible, as wel as able to fulfill one’s own potential in the modern world.

On December 14 and 15, the experts of developmental education will talk about the positive outcomes and prospects regarding the system of developmental education.

On December 16, the lecturers of the Institute of System Projects will present workshops for students on various school subjects. Among the lecturers are Boris Elkonin, Mikhail Klarin, Vladimir Lvovsky, Denis Minkin, Ekaterina Asonova, Alexande Malin, Svetlana Kats, Tatiana Mysina and others.
