School Museum: From Artifact to Digital Solutions

At the round table, participants will discuss how to create, develop, and use school museums and museum spaces.

On April 16, as part of the IX International Symposium “Education and the City: People and Institutions,” the round table “School Museum: From Artifact to Digital Solutions” will be held in a hybrid format. The moderators are Elena Ivanova and Ekaterina Asonova, researchers at the Research Institute of Urban Studies and Global Education, Moscow City University.

The round table will address how to create, develop, and use school museums and museum spaces:

  • What should be preserved in school museums? Which artifacts are most important today? What role do they play in education, upbringing, and the life of the school community?
  • How should museum space be organized? What are the requirements for a modern school museum? How can it be made open, interactive, and useful for the educational process?
  • Are digital technologies necessary? Virtual exhibitions, multimedia panels, QR codes, online archives — how do these tools help make museums accessible and engaging for students, teachers, and the whole school?
  • How do students themselves see the museum? What formats, exhibitions, and forms of interaction make a museum attractive to children? How can their interests be taken into account and how can they be involved in museum activities?
  • How does a museum support learning? How can its resources be used in lessons, extracurricular activities, and project-based learning?
  • How does a museum shape historical memory? Can it become a place for intergenerational dialogue, tell the story of a school, district, or city, and help form civic identity?

The discussion will include representatives of school museums, developers, and researchers from laboratories of educational infrastructure and sociocultural educational practices.

The event will be held in a hybrid format. In person — at 8 Sadovaya-Samotechnaya St., Room 40. Applications to participate as a speaker or attendee are open; registration is available via the link.

Please note: several events will take place at the same time. The link to join the broadcast is provided in the program. The full list of events will soon be available on the symposium website.
