The Institute of Natural Sciences and Sports Technologies of Moscow City University (MCU) hosted an intensive ecological workshop for students from Moscow schools. The event took place within the framework of the “Natural Science Vertical” project initiated by the Moscow Department of Education and Science.
Associate Professors Natalya Zhukova and Yulia Kropova, together with students from the Department of Natural Sciences, organised a series of hands-on sessions for the schoolchildren, allowing them to immerse themselves in environmental monitoring issues.
On the first day, participants worked with prepared samples, mastering methods of bioindication, biotesting, qualitative chemical reactions, and titration. Under the guidance of university students, on the second day the schoolchildren learned to format the obtained data into research projects. The third day served as a platform for presentations, defenses, and receiving feedback on their work.
The initiative projects of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Sports Technologies, “IEST’s Natural School” and “Natural Science Workshop,” are aimed at developing knowledge and applied skills in natural sciences among students in grades 7–9. The goal is to solve theoretical and practice-oriented problems, facilitate further education in pre-professional classes, and achieve successful self-realisation in various fields of modern natural sciences.
Within the framework of these projects, schoolchildren study advanced level materials in chemistry and biology and undergo training in additional general developmental programmes with a natural science focus.
The series of events takes place on the last Saturday of each month. The schedule and registration are available on the “Horisons” platform.
