Battle of the Young Scientists “Science Slam”

On October 20, a Science Slam event took place for the first time at Moscow City University.

The partners of the project include the Science Slam Association of Russia, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and Vkontakte.

Five young scientists performed on the stage of the movie and concert hall at the MCU’s Institute of Humanities telling the audience about their research in a popular science format.

Students and lecturers of MCU presented the following topics:

  • Sports Inquisitor. Elimination of Injures. Chapter 1… Football (Vitaly Pavlikov, 2nd-year Master’s Student of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Sports Technologies)
  • How to Look and Feel at 25 when you are 55: Customizing Women’s Physical Training (Maxim Gittya, PhD in Educational Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Adaptive Physical Education and Athletic Instruction, Master of Sports of Russia in Hand—to-hand Combat)
  • Student Exchange Programs in the Modern World (Polina Basova, 2nd-year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages)
  • An Outgoing Chinese and An Unfriendly Russian, or How Language Type Affects the Style of Communication (Sofia Mannapova, PhD, Associate Professor of the Chinese Language Department)
  • The Story of How a Stone Wanted to Become a Work of Art (Nikita Galkin, 2nd year master’s student)

The winner of the Science Slam was the speaker who received the warmest feedback from the audience. The victory went to Sofia Mannapova.

This victory gives her a chance to take part in the regional stage of the project. If she wins, she can participate in the All-Russian Science Slam.

The participants received diplomas and gifts from MCU. Ravil Rezakov, Head of the Department for Scientific Research and Development, awarded the winner a special prize from the hosts.
